The London Branch started to process recovered fibre through one of its newly commissioned balers on 1st December 2007 following a 35 day installation programme. The project encompassed the replacement of the old baler, the refurbishment of an existing conveyor and hogger and a new acoustic sound booth, this was an investment of £520k.
The last baler was commissioned 10 years ago, when it took 8 weeks to install, this involved major civil engineering works including the excavation of a below floor level conveyor pit as the London Branch is on the south bank of the River Thames, which had both difficult ground conditions and a high water table.
The new MAC III – I Baler is capable of baling 1,250 tonnes a week (the Old Press could bale 800 tonnes a week) which will give the branch considerable extra capacity “which we are confident we can fill” says Peter McCann SCAR UK Commercial Manager !
